If you are a first-generation and/or income-eligible student, what has your experience been like at UCSB?

As a first-generation undergraduate student here at UCSB entering my third year, my experience has been an adventure. The balance between academic and social life really makes me feel like I've found a home away from home.

What would you like to share with students about your experience at UCSB?

Being a first-generation and/ or income-eligible student can sometimes mean finding your own way through campus, which is something that has happened to me. Don't be afraid to reach out to all the resources that are meant to help you! Your tuition money is going to these organizations for you to use!

Top tips for fellow students?

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! With the quarter system, you find yourself in some classes having a midterm your third week in. Also, if you ever find yourself wanting a free snack or food, the Food Bank at the UCEN provides free groceries, sanitary items, etc.

Best advice you've received that has helped you at UCSB.

The best advice I've received that has helped me at UCSB is to never compare myself to others' success, especially when struggling. It's already a HUGE accomplishment coming to an amazing school!
