In memory of our beloved Director, Richard Teraoka
It is with tremendous sadness we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Richard Teraoka. Richard has graciously served the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) for 16 years as Counselor, well-loved Director of the Summer Transitional Enrichment Program and more recently as Director of the department. Before his tenure at EOP, he was a Clinical Supervisor for Student Health for 3 years.
Richard was a retention leader in the Division of Student Affairs and worked relentlessly to ensure the success of our student community. He received the Margaret T. Getman Service to Students Award in 2011 and a Patient Advocate of Excellence Award from Student Health. In the community, he was active in service and received a Volunteer of the Year award for his work at Heath House.
A man of strong ethics, he valued service, diversity and educational equity. He was adamant that staff put student’s transition and retention first and he modeled active mentorship. Over the years, he established many partnerships and programs and lived by the belief that together, we are stronger.
Richard was well respected and loved by many. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.

WELCOME TO THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is committed to providing a support and
information base that validates each student's experience and nurtures a sense of
participation, belonging and empowerment. Through mentorship, academic programs,
one-to-one counseling/advising, campus student support service referrals and social/cultural
programming, we strive to maximize a student's involvement and success in the campus
academic community. In addition to assisting students through to graduation, EOP
helps motivate and inform students to utilize services to enhance their preparation
for the job market and/or graduate/professional school admission. EOP services all
students, while focusing on those who are income eligible and first-generation undergraduates.
Excellence, achievement, leadership and community serve as the key elements to EOP's
