If you are a first-generation and/or income-eligible student, what has your experience been like at UCSB?

As a first generation student it has been challenging since I often felt lost. However, I found that there are good people here at UCSB that want us to succeed. Becoming involved with different programs, such as EOP, has greatly improved my experience here at UCSB. Overall, I would say my time here has been challenging yet rewarding.

What would you like to share with students about your experience at UCSB?

Being here at UCSB I have learned that it is what you make it. You can meet the best or worst people you have ever met in your life here. You can feel like a social butterfly or feel completely alone. Despite this, I believe here at UCSB there will always be someone out there rooting for you that can help you.

Top tips for fellow students?

when studying a complex concept, explain it to yourself as if you were a lecturer choose different study spots frequently, it stimulates the mind and can help with memorization taking walks, meditating, or journaling around UCSB's beautiful campus can be a great study break.

Best advice you've received that has helped you at UCSB.

"You will fail a class in college, and that is OKAY."

Why did you choose to be an EOP office assistant?

I chose to be an EOP office assistant because EOP has helped me tremendously throughout my time in college. Having the opportunity to help the program that has had an impact on my success as a first generation college student is something I really wanted to do. I wanted to give back to others that were in the same position that I was.
