About Me & Fun Facts
 
Hello! My name is Kareen, I am an EOP Counselor and Coordinator of the African diasporic Cultural Resource Center. I moved to Santa Barbara from the east coast (NJ/NY). Throughout my academic and professional career I have always been interested in the Black student experience from Admissions to Graduation and have worked in Residence Life, Career Services, EOP, Admissions and more. My passion is working with students to uplift and empower them to see the power and strength they possess. In my spare time I love to dance, do yoga and learn about health and wellness.

Bachelor of Arts - Public Administration with a minor in Black Studies and a Master of Education in College Student Affairs
 
Interests & Specialties
 
Black Student Experience, 1st gen experience, and Career & Graduate School Preparation - In graduate school I focused on career counseling as well as worked at Princeton in Career Services to provide 1st generation students with guidance and support in developing resumes, cover letters & interview preparation. I enjoy helping students gain internships, employment opportunities and research experience as well as prepare for the graduate school process.
 
Approach to working with students?
 
My approach to working with students is understanding their perspective, their background and their experiences and using that as a means to highlight their strengths. I practice a heart centered approach with solution focused counseling.

Why do you love working at EOP?
 
I love working with students and seeing their growth and transformation. I am inspired by the strength and resilience of the students I meet and am lucky to witness and be a part of their journey. I also enjoy creating engaging social, cultural and academic programming!

I can listen, provide support, help connect students to the resources UCSB has to offer as well as help students prepare for career and graduate opportunities.
