If you are a first-generation and/or income-eligible student, what has your experience been like at UCSB?
My experience on UCSB campus as an income eligible student has been trying. This experience comes with many expenses and external stressors. However, I have been able to reach out to many campus resources and staff to find solutions to these problems and ease my school life balance!
What would you like to share with students about your experience at UCSB?
During my time at UCSB I have faced many challenges, opportunities, and experiences that have been essential for my growth as an individual and student. However, I couldn’t have made it through these experiences alone! I think it is so important to build a support system around you that can help you navigate the challenges but also support your creative endeavors!
Top tips for fellow students? (Study tips, self care hacks, fav resources on campus, etc)
My favorite resources for studying on campus are to find a quiet room in the library, SRB, or in your housing! Also, my favorite resources on campus are basic needs and the AS food bank! These groups do a great job at ensuring students have access to food.
Best advice you've received that has helped you at UCSB.
The best advice I have received as a UCSB student is to not suffer in silence! There will inevitably be a time in your college life that you face a problem: something you don't know how to handle, something you need help with, a problem that needs fixed timely for school or life, ect. But in these situations you should always know that there are resources on our campus to help you and you do not have to confront any of these situations alone!
Why did you choose to be an EOP peer mentor?
I chose to be a EOP peer mentor because from my experience I know college students have a bunch of random problems that they need answers to or need help navigating and oftentimes don’t know where to turn. I love listening to students' problems and providing all the resources I know on and off campus that will make their lives just a little bit easier!
