If you are a first-generation and/or income-eligible student, what has your experience been like at UCSB?

It was a difficult transition in the beginning, but after I asked for help I learned about a lot of different resources UCSB has to offer that helped me feel more at home.

What would you like to share with students about your experience at UCSB?

The experience is what you make of it, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone to attend club meetings and speak to my classmates. I was able to find organizations that align with my goals and passions, and make friends that I feel like I've known for years. The community you build can feel like home.

Top tips for fellow students?

My favorite resource on campus is the Rec Cen Bucks at the EOP front desk, which can be used to pay for Rec Cen classes. I have taken pilates and tennis, both which have been super fun. The day of the class is for sure one I look forward to.

Best advice you've received that has helped you at UCSB.

You cannot be helped if you don't ask for help. It may be difficult for some to reach out, but once you do, the support you receive can definitely change your situation, along with the resources that you'll learn about.

Why did you choose to be an EOP peer mentor/office assistant?

EOP has been crucial to my transition into UCSB as a first gen students. Its events and resources are tailored to help students succeed, and it was incredibly helpful for me. I learned about different tools UCSB has from EOP, and I want to ensure other can learn about and take advantage of the different resources UCSB has to offer.
